Erik Killmonger, portrayed by Michael B. Jordan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is a complex antagonist first appearing in Marvel Studios' Black Panther (2018). Born N'Jadaka in Oakland, California, he is the son of Prince N'Jobu, brother to T'Chaka, making him the nephew of the then-king and cousin to T'Challa, the titular Black Panther.
Abandoned by Wakanda after his father's death at T'Chaka's hand, N'Jadaka was fueled by resentment and a burning desire for revenge. He adopted the name Erik Stevens and excelled in military combat, becoming a highly skilled black-ops soldier. He amassed a significant kill count, each marked on his body.
Killmonger's primary goal was to seize the Wakandan throne and use its advanced technology to liberate oppressed people of African descent worldwide. He believed Wakanda had selfishly hidden its power, neglecting those suffering globally. His violent methods and radical vision clashed directly with T'Challa's more cautious and isolationist approach, leading to a fierce conflict for the future of Wakanda and its influence on the world.
